Visit from the Lee Clan

So we had the pleasure of hosting Grand-Umma and Grand-Abba this past week, plus a visit from Kun Oppah (Big Uncle) Ed since Thu - in the early part of the week, we had some Hot-lanta type weather, but it eventually got more Boston like.  Maya was her typical angel-self, and quickly bonded with the Lee clan.  Eddie brought a bunch more cute Gilt outfits for Maya, and was great as we took her out to a bunch of restaurants (Stephi's, Toro) and visited the amazing stained glass Chihuly exhibit at the MFA... Along the way, Maya turned 4 weeks, then quickly 1 month (we wanted to get both pics in here ; ).  We also had a friend of ours take "professional" pics for Maya's upcoming birth announcement - more to come on that, as Lisa writes that post.  Then Maya visited Belmont Country Club at her first birthday party (for her BFF Elle Roth - aka Daddy's boss man's daughter).  The only other BIG news is that I FINALLY broke Lisa's monopoly on feeding Maya, as we successfully bottle fed her on Sat... Maya, as usual, picked it up with no problem... Here are some pics from the visit - enjoy!

Hi Grand-Umma & Abba!  Aren't I cute?

My t-shirt is more provocative than yours!

My t-shirt says "I love grandma"!  Almost as cool as a "Maya GP" license plate!

Hi Grand-Umma!

Wait, you don't have milk?

Korean style of massaging baby's feet - helps with gas!

Grand-Abba thanking the baby-maker...

Wow - grandchild #1 (of hopefully many)

So cute I just wanna eat you up!

A little advice from one mom to another...

Look at the size of my eyes - still blue too!

"She must get her looks from you..."

Stylin' adidas Y-3 kicks from Eddie - prob more expensive than daddy's shoes!

Hi Uncle Eddie!  To cross your eyes, just stare at something really hard... trust me - they won't stay this way!

Told you they wouldn't stay cross-eyed!

You kinda look like my daddy, only much more stylish!

Damn right, I'm cute!

When are you coming back to visit?

Now that the family visits are (mostly) over, we have nothing to look forward to until Block Island over Labor Day, then a quick visit to Maryland in late Sep, followed by T-giving / Grand-Umma & Abba 50th Anniv (wow!).

1 Month Birthday!

I can't believe how fast the first month has flown by. Maya has exceeded all of our expectations - not only is she way more adorable than we could have ever imagined, she is also so smart, engaged and well-behaved.

We had a pretty full day today, starting with Maya's 1-month checkup with Dr. Shang. We got updated measurements for Maya's height, weight and head size:
Weight: 9 lbs, 8 oz (59th percentile)
Height: 21.25 inches (55th percentile)
Head Size: 14.8 inches (63rd percentile)

Here is a chart that shows how she's grown over the last month:

Other than that, the appointment was pretty routine. Dr. Shang says she still has a little bit of jaundice, but that should go away within the next few weeks. Our next appointment, at 2 months, will be the hard one - that's when she gets her first shots. :(

After the doctor appointment, Maya and I went to our first Stroller Strides exercise class. It was so much fun, we met lots of other new moms and I got to work out for the first time in a month! Here is a picture of us doing jumping jacks while singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" to our babies. They must have thought we were nuts!

We spent most of the afternoon chilling at home, but then we went to the Pru at 5pm to meet Tara, my old boss at Ocean Spray. On the way, we ran into Liz and John at ISIS, and then afterward bumped into EJ from Arnold. What a social outing!

Tomorrow is our first day of class! We have the ISIS Great Beginnings class for the next 6 weeks, to help us meet new moms and babies around the same age in the city. We can't wait!

Cooing

Maya has started making the cutest cooing sounds, Richard and I just love them. It's a much nicer way of communication than crying is!

The heat stroke is finally over, and Maya and I celebrated the cooler temps by going for a nice long walk with the Baby Bjorn. We somehow ended up at Marshalls, and I couldn't resist buying her a cute dress and a fun toy for when she gets a little older. Its called the Sort and Spin hippo - you have to put the shapes in the right hole and then when you push down on the top he spits it out his mouth!

Later this afternoon we're meeting our friends at ISIS for a little play date and then Phil is coming over tonight for dinner. Hopefully Maya is up for all this socializing!

Videos from Gramma and Grandpa's Visit

It took us a while to learn how to download videos from our camcorder, but we finally did it! Here are some videos from Gramma and Grandpa's visit back in early July.

A day in the life...

So what's a typical day like for Maya at 3 weeks? In this post, Maya describes her day (Weds, July 20th), as interpreted by her mom:

2am: Wake up for my first nighttime feeding. Mom takes me out of the bassinet, where I sleep right next to her, and starts to feed me. She's so fast at responding to my need for food, I don't even have a chance to cry! I usually fall asleep by the end of the meal, and don't notice when mom changes my diaper and puts me back in my bed.

5am: Repeat of the 2am feeding.

6:30am: Daddy time! Dad takes me into the living room to hang out a bit while Mommy gets a little more sleep. I'm usually half asleep myself, but love cuddling with Daddy. You know I'm happy when I make little cooing sounds!

8am: Breakfast!! Today, mommy explained to me where the word "Breakfast" comes from. But she couldn't really explain the origin of lunch or dinner, can anyone help her out?

8:30 - 10:30am: I had a long stretch of awake time this morning. I started the day with a Skype to Gramma and Grandpa - I showed off my new tummy time skills by turning my head a few times! I'm also starting to reach for the toys on my playmat, like the cute owl that flies above my head. Then I cuddled with mom for a while, before falling asleep for a morning nap.

11am: Early Lunch! Yum, the milk tastes like cereal and strawberries today!

11:30am - 12:30pm: More awake time! This time, mommy and I sang Neko Case songs in my rocker for a while. I love listening to music, it really soothes me.

12:30 - 1:30pm: I feel asleep in my vibrating chair - buzzzzzzzz

1:30pm: Late Lunch! Today's special was a turkey sandwich.

2:00 - 3:00pm: Mommy and I were going to go for a walk, but it was just so hot outside. We sat out on the deck for a few minutes though, does that count as "getting out of the house"?

3:00 - 4:00pm: We decided to take a nap this afternoon, at first I was going to sleep in my bassinet next to mom's bed, but I needed a little something to help me fall asleep. So instead, we tried my crib for the first time! I loved watching the mobile, that helped me fall into a deep sleep. Mommy only managed to get a few minutes of sleep before I woke up again, but she says it felt good!

4:00pm - Afternoon snack!

4:45pm - Back to sleep! What can I say, I get sleepy in the afternoons. Plus, I have to save up my energy for my daddy time this evening!

7:45pm - Wow, I slept a lot this evening! Mommy's friend Katie came over and brought me a cute onesie from Tadpole, I love that store! Katie held me for a while, but I pretty much slept the whole time. When I finally woke up, I was starving - dinner time!

8:30pm - After a yummy dinner, I fell back asleep in Daddy's lap. He put me in a tight swaddle, and I was out like a light! I'll probably sleep for another few hours, then its time for dessert and more sleeping. It's tough being a 3-week old!!

Happy 3 week Birthday Maya!

Maya is 3 weeks old today! We had a wonderful day, starting with some great family time this morning - check out Maya in these videos:

Then we took a walk over to the Pru, where we browsed in the book store and went over to ISIS to weigh Maya. She was 8lbs, 12 oz (with clothes and a diaper on), so still growing really well! We took a walk along Commonwealth Ave, but it was so hot and humid so we didn't go for too long.

After a quick snack, Maya had some more quality daddy time while Mommy went for a pedicure, and then we all went to a BBQ at Bethy and Jason's house in the evening. There was more wonderful Daddy time after we got home, with Maya so awake and alert she made it through 3 different books!

Daddy finished off the day's festivities with an Ice Cream Sandwich, while Mommy snacked on crackers and finished watching Sideways. All in all, a wonderful family day!

Maya has a belly button!

"I've fallen and I can't get up!" Ms. Umbilical Cord
Maya showing off the buddha belly sans cord.
Big day today - Maya's umbilical cord FINALLY fell off this AM... it may look like a little piece of poop, but it's really the cord... we're pretty psyched too, for many reasons:

1/ the cord really started to smell (like poop)
2/ Maya can now do tummy time more!
3/ we can now see if Maya has an "innie" or an "outie"
4/ Maya can now take full baths (instead of wipe downs).

Yay!

Welcome to MayaRoseLee.com!

Hello World!  My name is Maya Rose Lee!
We're in the process of moving everything over from LeeLaichEggy.Wordpress.com (which will be used if and when we have Eggy #2). Someday, when Maya becomes a famous blogger, she'll take over this URL and will thank daddy for reserving lots of URLs for her!

We see this as the place we'll be posting most of the pics and videos of Maya as she grows up - intended for friends and family that are interested in keeping tabs of our little angel. We'll prob post "best of" to Facebook too, but this is the double-click version of those...

Subscribe via RSS if you want to get an email everytime we post something! Oh yeah, and let us know what you think - and post lots of comments - we read them to Maya!
